For More Bandwidth You Need A Optical Transceiver
Fiber optic networks are absolutely an amazing innovation. Simply by bouncing a laser signal through a tiny reflective tube, data can be quickly transmitted to a user. An optical transceiver, though, is mandatory for this high-speed internet setup to work.
Broadcasting and picking up signals and converting them back and forth among two disparate formats are the operations that a transmitter/receiver, or transceiver, executes. Laser signals must be converted to electricity in order to be received by a connected machine, and the opposite conversion assures that a signal travels quickly; the fiber-optic network transceiver facilitates both. Optical transceivers, therefore, are pivotal parts of the chain, and ensure that speedy information transfer to the end user happens at all, as intended.
There is inevitably some sacrifice of speed as a light-based signal is converted to an electrical one. Electrical wires like Gigabit Ethernet, though, can help maintain a lot of speed, and GBIC modules and related transceiver types equipped for these connectors can be obtained.
Transceivers essentially provide connection points that enable the change from one medium to another. Possessing hot-swappable transceivers including Gbic modules gives one flexibility in creating a network and using varied connection types at different points. Someone may make the decision to switch to a different type of optical fiber, and a new transceiver made to handle that type can be put in, or an administrator may wish to use a different type of Ethernet cable, and one transceiver can be replaced with another to adjust for this. A network creator will not have to worry too much about having the correct switches all in advance if modular devices like these are taken advantage of; if cables are exchanged, a modular transceiver specific to the new cable types is connected.
The transceiver, quite obviously, is one of the absolutely important parts of a high-speed network. Proper signal crossover and a high bitrate (as long as high-speed electrical linkage and a corresponding switching device are used) are made possible. To validate the use of the fiber-optics in the first place, a setup such as this should be put into action. With a well-constructed high-speed network, we have the ability to get every bit that we expect from our Internet experience.
EnterpriseDB's Karen Padir: From MySQL to Postgres + Hadoop (readwriteweb)
For a total of 17 years, Karen Padir was an executive at Sun Microsystems, and
was present for that company's astounding transition to open source
technologies. She was an advocate for MySQL when Sun acquired that project,
and then later when Oracle acquired Sun, promising the "Dolphin" faithful that

open source development community's move towards less structured, higher
capacity databases. So last week, EnterpriseDB started building a bridge to
Hadoop, the cloud-oriented database born from Yahoo, launching a private beta
program for the innocuously-entitled Postgres Plus Connector for Hadoop.
