Best Hdtv Antenna
High Definition TV at its BEST
Setting Up High Definition Television
At the forefront of TV technologies, today you will find the ever popular high definition television. Looking anywhere from the analog to digital, digital to standard definition TV, and now the typical TV to change to high definition TV, has exceeded even the quality found in DVD movies. High definition TVs have brought the movie theaters inside the homes of consumers and the only basic difference is the size of the screen.
HDTV receives a live digital signal from a cable service, by getting it either from DirecTV or a Dish network system. These cable services offer HDTV shows that includes but are not limited to NBA TV, Showtime, CBS, HBO TV, Pay Per View, etc. Several HDTV programs are free upon subscription and others like HBO will have a separate subscription fee.
Using the Best HDTV Antenna
This is important since the best HDTV antenna available will be the one to receive the sensitive digital signals from the cable services.
Many people use an off air HDTV antenna, because it is able to receive off air broadcasts of high definition TV shows. This high performing HDTV antenna is to be connected to the high definition tuner card for the best in viewing .
A high definition tuner card is sometimes capable to receive high definition TV show signals.
This is why it is important to understand if your high definition tuner card is able to receive off air broadcasts of high definition TV shows. High definition tuner cards have the capability of receiving high definition TV show signals then the best HDTV antenna is no longer really needed.
Some consumers say that the high definition tuner card is sufficient enough against the use of the best HDTV antenna. Other consumers still say that the best HDTV antenna is needed to be able to come up with the superior picture and sound.
Either the best HDTV antenna or the high definition tuner card, that is for the consumer to try out for themselves, sometimes the high definition TV show signal in an area, can be weak that they really need the best HDTV antenna to be able to view effectively the high definition TV shows.
High Definition Tuner For HDTV
Next, the consumer will have to consider the high definition tuner that he will use for his high definition TV sets. Most high definition tuners have an advanced program guide that integrates all the off air broadcasts of high definition TV shows into one seamless program for convenience to the user.
The advanced program guide of high definition tuner cards, is used by consumers to look at scheduled programs several days in advance.
The high definition tuner for the high definition TV sets must also be highly effective to be able to provide superior quality of standard and high definition programming.
Setting-Up Your HDTV - More Advice
Now let’s take a moment to consider what a consumer should look for in the best HDTV antenna before purchasing one and looking at the different high definition tuner cards that are available.
The consumer must be aware of the input or output jacks needed to complete all high definition TV connections. The consumer might decide to connect a few other pieces of equipment or accessories to his high definition TV set and therefore must be able to check what input or output jacks does he need even before buying a HDTV.
People using a HDTV can connect to VHS, DVD cable box and even video game consoles to his high definition TV set, which will involve some planning for these types of connections.
Most likely you will be required to have S-video connection jacks aside from the composite or even component video analog jacks can be needed too. Using these connection jacks, the consumer can readily buy a high definition TV set without fear of problems in connections. It is always a good idea to use the best and easiest connection devices because the simpler the HDTV connections, the better and more convenient it will be for you in the end.
If I buy a digital tuner for my analog TV, do I also have to buy an ATSC antenna?
I want to be able to watch the over-the-air digital channels.
Okay, I meant a digital antenna. Can get the digital over-the-air channels with the tuner alone? Or do I also have to buy a digital antenna?
There's no such thing as an ATSC antenna, or an HDTV antenna or a digital antenna. They're just plain old VHF/UHF antennas because DTV is broadcast in the same frequency bands analog TV. The only reason an old antenna might have to be replaced is if it you're in a marginal reception area. DTV isn't like analog TV, where you can watch a picture that's a little on the weak, noisy side. DTV just doesn't display if the signal is weak or there is a lot of multipath (ghosts).
So yes, if you get one of the analog to digital converters, you will need an antenna. Whether you need to buy one will depend on how good the TV signals are in your area.
update
Yes-you'll need an antenna.
Boxee Box Gets Ready To Do It Live: USB TV Tuner/Antenna Coming In January (Techcrunch)
Many people think of television antennas as relics of the past: bunny ears and
ugly wires, black and white, and fuzzy snow pictures. So, instead, we're happy
to plop down upwards of $50 (or $85, or $100) a month to get cable, which
comes loaded with HD content and (sometimes) high quality programming. Turns
out, TV antennas are a lot more useful than most people think: most of the
shows people watch are actually available over broadcast networks like FOX,
NBC, CBS, and NBC — Boxee says 89 out of the top 100 appear on these freely
available networks. And soon owners of the Boxee Box will have an easier way
to take advantage of them, thanks to a new $49 USB TV tuner that's being
released in January (the feature was first spotted by GigaOm in a leaked
software build last week).
